Godskitchen Boombox

‘Many event managers hire lighting and sound from seperate companies, and intergrate these into the overall design of events’ and that is exactly what Godskitchen done with the Boombox (Allen et al, 2011: p434). Godskitchen a renowned Promoter within the Electronic music scene in 2009 saw the launch of its Audio Visual Spectacle the ‘Godskitchen Boombox’ which toured the world for 2 years showcasing some of the best DJ’s in the world. The Structure which is 16 metres wide, 8 metres high and 6 metres deep combines with projection technology and uses unique lighting and special effects to create a truly unique visual show for anyone.

The Boombox that was designed by Parisian based company ‘1024 architecture’ who were also behind other structures such as the ‘V-mirror’ used for electronic music artist Vitalic’s flashmob tour. The Boombox takes shape as an oversized ghetto blaster with the DJ taking the place of the Tape deck. The Boombox which has had sell-out shows across the world also worked with NE1CO to develop the software for the Boombox, NE1CO are a motion graphics and projection company who have established themselves over the last ten years and have worked with some of the biggest artists in electronic dance music today like Stanton Warriors, Above&Beyond, and even sell-out artist Avicii.

Having seen the Boombox it is like no other audio visual production that I have ever seen before and really was something unique that I do not believe that anyone could rival.

“Event use Special effects to attract attention, generate excitement, and sustain interest” (Goldblatt 2008:p229) Godskitchen really did push the boundaries and raised the bar of electronic music dance production however in 2011 following on from the success with the Boombox they created The ‘Fusion Cube’ which like the Boombox uses the same projection technology however this is now combined with 3D imaging and lighting making it even more spectacular. These Productions bring something new to festivals and events across the world rather than just seeing the same visual’s on LED walls with strobes etc.
